The Shoals
There is something about the Shoals that stays with you.
Maybe it is the Tennessee River winding between our towns, the familiar streets of Florence, Sheffield, Tuscumbia, and Muscle Shoals, or the old buildings and landmarks that have watched generations come and go. Maybe it is something harder to explain, a feeling that this place becomes part of you long before you realize it.
People leave the Shoals. They grow up, move away, build lives in other places, and follow roads far beyond the banks of the Tennessee. But somehow, those roads have a way of leading home.
The Shoals calls us back through memories. Through familiar buildings, front porches, church steeples, downtown streets, music, family stories, and sunsets over the river. Even when the places we remember have changed or disappeared entirely, something of them remains with us.
This piece is a tribute to that pull, the invisible thread connecting us to the place that shaped us.
Because no matter how far we wander, somewhere along the Tennessee River, the Shoals is still waiting for us.
And somehow, it always calls us home.
