The Roxy Theater

The Historic Roxy Theatre has stood along North Jackson Avenue in downtown Russellville since 1949. With its distinctive Art Moderne design and glowing marquee, the Roxy became more than a place to see a movie. For generations of Franklin County families, it was a place for first dates, Saturday afternoons, nights downtown, and memories made beneath the lights of Jackson Avenue.

The theatre opened on September 15, 1949, and remained an important part of community life until changing forms of entertainment led to its closure in 1976. After sitting vacant for more than a decade, the Roxy was donated to the Franklin County Arts and Humanities Council in 1987. Through years of restoration and community support, the theatre was given a second life as a home for performances, celebrations, and community events.

Today, the Roxy remains one of Russellville’s most recognizable landmarks and a reminder of the generations who have walked beneath its marquee.
