Rogers Hall - UNA

Originally known as Courtview, Rogers Hall was built between 1854 and 1855 for planter George Washington Foster in the Greek Revival style. Because the mansion permanently blocked the northern end of Court Street, the Alabama Legislature granted special permission for the street to be closed before construction could proceed. During the Civil War, the home and its grounds were occupied at various times by both Confederate and Union forces. After passing through the ownership of the Foster family, Alabama Governor Emmet O'Neal, and businessman Thomas M. Rogers, the property was purchased by Florence State Teachers College in 1948. Today, Rogers Hall remains one of the University of North Alabama's most recognizable historic landmarks and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
